portraiture
/ illustration, digital art, self-portaiture
Self-portraits always tend to be an exercise is excessive self-criticism. These were no different.
The brief was to create four self-portraits in four different styles, namely and respectively:
- high contrast black-and-white
- realistic
- sketched (as part of an art course)
- psychedelia
The results of these all illuminated a completely different skill set, and really forced me to - in a way - come to terms with my own face. Self-portraits often harbour a certain amount of resistance because one is always conscious on one's own features, and seeing it on screen versus one's own imagination of oneself is an odd experience, but a healthy one nonetheless.
